Road to The Last Dream
Live-action cutscenes without professional equipment: building a haunted atmosphere with environment and color grading.
By Specialbit Studio
The Last Dream leaned on live-action cutscenes to blur the line between reality and dream. The catch: we had no professional film equipment and no budget for a crew. The actors were the developers themselves.
Instead of fighting our limitations, we used them. The haunted atmosphere came from environment, framing, and careful color grading rather than expensive production. Shadows did the work that lighting rigs usually do.
Looking back, those improvised shoots are some of our fondest memories. They taught us that mood is something you build in the edit, not something you can only buy on set.
